Museum After Hours

August 1

Time: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Location: Missouri State Museum, Missouri Capitol
Description: Starting in January, the Missouri State Museum will have “Museum after Hours” events on the first Wednesday of each month and stay open until 8 p.m. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to visit the museum at night, or your schedule doesn’t allow daytime outings, come join us for special programs and view the exhibits. You will find both old and new favorites, including “Civil War Missouri: A House Dividing,” an exhibit that commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Evening entry to the museum will be through the carriage entrance on the south side of the building underneath the grand staircase.

“The Wind in the Willows”

July 19-August 4

Time: Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday matinees at 2:00 p.m.
Location: Stained Glass Theater, 830 E. High Street
Description: Struck with spring fever, Marely the mole emerges from his underground home and ventures to the river, where he meets up with Ribby the water rat and the mischievous Thaddius Toad, who has a knack for getting himself into trouble. Obsessed with motorcars, the impulsive Toad “borrows” Mr. and Mrs. Church mouse’s car, recklessly crashes it into a tree, and ends up in jail. To save Toad, Ribby and Marley journey into the Wild Woods. Audiences of all ages will enjoy the friends’ adventures as they transform into responsible, sensible creatures.

“Avenue Q” Dinner Theatre

August 9-12, 16-19

Time: August 9,10,11,16,17 and 18; doors open at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.  Matinee performances will be August 12 and 19; doors open at noon, lunch at 12:30 p.m., and the show starts at 1:30 p.m.

Description: Tony-winning musical “Avenue Q” is the hilarious and heartfelt story of a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York with big dreams and little money. He can only afford to live on Avenue Q but good news: his neighbors turn out to be a remarkably funny bunch of characters. It’s Sesame Street for adults as Capital City Players musical entertainers become the puppet characters of “Avenue Q,” the wonderful new musical that is breaking box office records throughout the country!

Rotaract Kicks in the Sticks (Trail Scramble)

August 11

Time: Either 6:30 or 7:00 pm – tbd – two hours before sunset
Location: Binder Park
Description: Approximate 1.2, 3.5 and 7.5 mile run through the woods followed by food, drinks & a festive jamboree.

Cruisin for MDA

August 25

Time: 5 to 9:30 p.m.
Location: High Street, Downtown Jefferson City
Description: Come see the largest car show in Jefferson City the last Saturday of every month from March to September. Listen to the music supplied by COOL 97.5, grab some food sold by the Jefferson City Host Lions Club and look at the cars displayed on the streets.

American Heart Association 5K

August 25

Time: Gates open at 8:00am, walk begins at 9:15am..
Location: Memorial Pool, 120 Binder Drive
Description: The 2012 American Heart Association 5K Run/Walk will be held at Memorial pool. More information and registration forms can be found online at www.jeffersoncityheartwalk.org.
Cost: Participation is free, walkers are eligible for a Heart Walk t-shirt once they have raised a minimum of $100.
