“Family Camp”

October 20-November 5

Time: Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday matinees at 2:00 p.m.
Location: Stained Glass Theater, 830 E. High Street
Description: Set in the 1940’s, this play transports the audience back to an old-school Christian campground where families have gone for generations.  On the last night of camp, it is revealed that the Dinsdales, long-time owners of Camp Awannahikealotta, have to sell the camp due to financial troubles.  The buyer, Mr. Abbott, has big plans to modernize everything by doing away with all outdoor camp activities, that is until the camp hosts a talent show where everyone has the chance to share why they love camp so much.  Will Mr. Abbott be convinced to preserve the natural charm of Camp Awannahikealotta for years to come?

Downtown Jefferson City Holiday Open House

State Cross Country Championships

November 5

Time: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Location: Oak Hills Golf Center, 932 Ellis Blvd.
Description: The Missouri State Cross Country Championships will bring hoards of runners, coaches and fans to Jefferson City on Saturday, November 5.  The girls’ championship has taken place in Jefferson City since its inception in 1979, while the boys’ championship moved here in 1976 and has been here ever since. Representatives from 200 boys’ and 200 girls’ high school cross country teams across the state travel to compete in this event.

2nd Annual Jefferson City Holiday Shopping Expo

Zonta 5k

November 5

Time: 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Location: Memorial Park
Description: Zonta Club of Jefferson City will host its third annual 5K Run on Saturday, November 5, at 9:00 a.m. at Memorial Park. The event is a fundraiser for the Zonta International Foundation.

The Foundation provides programs to promote education, health and economic self-sufficiency for women. Since 1923, Zonta International has provided more than $8 million to projects benefiting millions of women and their families in over 75 countries.

People of all ages are encouraged to participate in the walk/run. Trophies will be awarded to the overall winners of each event, and medals will go to the top three finishers (runners and walkers) in seven age groups.

Lincoln and Citizens’ Rights in Civil War Missouri: Balancing Freedom and Security

November 10

Location: Missouri State Archives, Kirkpatrick State Information Center (600 W. Main St.)
Description: Dennis Boman will discuss the difficulties that President Abraham Lincoln, state officials and military authorities faced in trying to defeat Missouri’s guerrillas. He will present the rationale for the establishment of military tribunals and other controversial policies meant to repress acts of subversion, while simultaneously protecting Constitutional rights.

Civil War Missouri: A House Dividing- Unveiling & Activity Day

November 12

Time: 1 – 4 p.m.
Location: Missouri State Museum History Hall, State Capitol
Description: At this family-friendly event, visitors will be able to view newly installed artifacts in the “Civil War Missouri: A House Dividing” exhibit, including the flag from the 7th Regiment (Irish) Missouri Infantry and the Missouri battle flag. The exhibit is in the History Hall of the museum, which is on the 1st floor of the State Capitol.

The museum’s “Ready, Aim, FIre” Civil War Artillery Program will occur at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Visitors can participate in a real cannon crew!

The Missouri Irish Brigade of Civil War Re-enactors will do an infantry drill demonstration at 2 and 3 p.m. (weather permitting).

Ongoing programs by the Missouri Irish Brigade and museum staff include; Weapons of the Civil War: touch and learn about various weapons used; Civil War Soldier: learn what daily life was like for a soldier; School of the Soldier: learn how to drill; Civil War Sutler: merchants followed Civil War troops everywhere; Women’s Fashion in the Civil War: learn what was happening on the homefront.

The exhibit will be on display in the Missouri State Museum through June 2015 with different artifacts being rotated into the exhibit every six months.

“An Intimate Evening with Neal E. Boyd”

Monticello Men’s Choir Holiday Concert

November 27

Description: Holiday Concert, by Monticello Men’s Choir organized by David Gillespie–longtime director of Jefferson City’s high school Capitol Caroling. The group’s first public performance was in 2008 in the Missouri State Capitol rotunda.

Songs of the Thanksgiving and the Christmas season. New concert conductor Bryan Hawk and Artistic Director Dr. R. Paul Crabb are from Missouri University’s choral music program. Guest soloist is Robin Beach-Steinhaus.

Come celebrate the season with this concert that is free to the public.
