Missouri State Penitentiary numbers on pace to double 2009 numbers

The first weekend of March, 22 men and women walked through buildings filled with nearly two centuries of history. These individuals took part in this year’s first public tour of the Missouri State Penitentiary. Since then, over 3,650 visitors have toured the Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City; just over 3,000 toured the prison in 2009. Read more…
Discover Jefferson City Foundation receives non-profit status

Missouri State Penitentiary tours resume in March

The Missouri State Penitentiary opens its doors to the public the first weekend in March; for tours, of course. In 2004, the Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP) was decommissioned; in May of 2009, the Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau began offering tours of the historic site to the public. In its first year, over 3,000 people caught a glimpse of “life inside the walls.” Read more…

Jefferson City Named Missouri State Track and Field Host City for Upcoming Years

Championships, according to an announcement made by the Missouri State High School Activities

The Jefferson City Convention and Visitors Bureau has received a huge response for its first official Missouri State Penitentiary Hard Hat Tour. After dozens of calls from interested parties, the tour on Saturday, May 2, is sold out. Reservations and payment for the tours must be made in advance by calling the Bureau at (573) 632-2820 or (800) 769-4183. This $12 tour is limited to groups of about 15. Read more…
