Expect delays on U.S. Route 54 this summer

Updated 8/22/2024

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) announced the city's tri-level bridges are pending repairs that will result in significant travel delays this summer. Contractors are to perform joint and deck repairs and place new concrete wearing surfaces on the pair of bridges that cross over U.S. Route 50 and McCarty Street. Lanes are expected to become narrowed to one in each direction July 15 and last through mid-October. The contractor has 90 calendar days to restore normal traffic patterns; they could be done sooner with early completion incentives available.

The work will be done in two phases. During the first phase all ramps to and from U.S. Route 54 from the Missouri River Bridge to Missouri Boulevard are expected to remain open. During the second phase, due to the traffic shift, the West Main Street Exit and the ramp from eastbound U.S. Route 54 to U.S. Route 50 are expected to be closed.

There will be a 15-foot width restriction in the work zone - this applies to those towing recreational boats and campers wider than 15 feet - with the speed reduced to 35 mph. Travelers headed to and from the Lake of the Ozarks area should plan ahead and find an alternate route to avoid these significant delays.
